WHAT IF…YOU COULD LET GO AND LET GOD HANDLE YOUR PROBLEMS?
Another way of saying, “Let go and let God” is in the prayer Jesus gave us—see Matthew, Chapter 6 (NKJV). Verse 10 is written, Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Even Jesus had to give up His Will. From Luke 22:41-42: And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done. (Emphasis, added.)
Perhaps a devotion from God Calling@ can help us understand God’s intention better.
I want no will laid grudgingly upon My Altar. I want you to desire and love My will, because therein lies your happiness and Spirit-rest.
Whenever you feel that you cannot leave the choice to Me, then pray, not to be able to accept My Will, but to know and love Me more. With that knowledge, and the Love, will come the certainty that I know best, and that I want only the best for you and yours.
How little those know Me who think I wish to thwart them. How often I am answering their own prayers in the best and quickest way. (*From the November 27th God Calling Devotional Journal, published by Barbour Publishing, Inc. Used by permission.)
Isn’t it interesting the verse before Matthew 6:9 is, For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. Because He knows, we don’t have to worry about what we need; we just need to trust Him and have faith.
As Thomas Merton, reflecting on his own encounter with God, wrote in his autobiography, The Seven Storey Mountain, “I should have been able to realize that He is much more anxious to take care of us, and capable of doing so, then we ourselves. It is only when we refuse His help, resist His will, that we have conflict, trouble, disorder, unhappiness, ruin.”
