WHAT IF…GOD ISN’T REAL TO YOU?

You say, God isn’t real to you? Guess what? It doesn’t really matter. You might not believe in Him but … the good news is He believes in you. Why shouldn’t He? He made you, He created you and not only you but everyone you know, everyone you touch, everyone you see and … not only everyone, but everything!

Now, why would He go to all that trouble? Well, why do humans want to have children or even get a pet? There seems to be an innate desire in humans to care for someone and have that someone care for them. Since God created us it seems reasonable He also gave us the desire to share love; His love–agape love.

The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica Article History define it this way:

Greek agapē, in the New Testament, the fatherly love of God for humans, as well as the human reciprocal love for God. In Scripture, the transcendent agape love is the highest form of love and is contrasted with eros, or erotic love, and philia, or brotherly love. In John 3:16, a verse that is often described as a summary of the Gospel message, agape is the word used for the love that moved God to send his only son for the world’s redemption. The term necessarily extends to the love of one’s fellow humans, as the reciprocal love between God and humans is made manifest in one’s unselfish love of others.

God’s love isn’t just for believers…it is for sinners and we ALL belong in that category. So why should God love sinners? He, unlike us, is unselfish (see above). When explaining that kind of love in action, the author of Matthew 5:45 wrote, “…for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust”. Isn’t that the kind of love we should follow? Unselfish? Isn’t that how you want to be treated? This is more than being treated fairly … this is the highest kind of love!

Look at the ways we humans show love to one another: time spent with our loved one, patience with our loved one, forgiveness to our loved one, and listening to our loved one. This is what Jesus does for us! Someone once said, the way we show love is the way we see God. How does He listen to us? He does this when we are at prayer. He hears us and when we give our lives to Him, we hear Him.

Now the hard part. If you believe in Him, you must turn your human, conditional love—your will over to God and daily try to take on His unconditional love for all earthly humans. This is your prayer:

“God, life is hard and I’ve really messed it up. Please help me. I can’t live like this anymore. I need you to take control of my life and lead me out of this mess! Amen.”

That’s all it takes! Your heartfelt pleading, yelling, begging or your whispered heart desire. He will hear you and He will help you. This rebirth in Christ can be hard for even the most learned to understand, but easy for a small, innocent child. For them, love is where it’s at! Even Nicodemus, a very learned scholar of the Jews, had trouble with this concept but if you humble yourself and do as Jesus said, “He who believes in Him (Jesus Christ) is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:18.
